The Full Story - Dr. Avni Dalal, ND
Dr. Avni Dalal is a licensed primary care physician who received her medical training from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (SCNM) in Phoenix, AZ and received her Bachelor of Science in Experimental Psychology with emphasis in Pre-Medicine.
She has always been interested in medical research and during her time at SCNM, she partook in research of hypoglycemic effects of various herbal plants for type 2 diabetes mellitus under the supervision of Dr. Yasmin Abusamra. This further sparked her desire to gain a deeper understanding of herbal medicine that had been utilized in Ayurveda.
Her clinical training was focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine, naturopathic approaches for mental health, thyroid disease, menstrual conditions, and adolescent care with emphasis on providing care for PCOS, PMS, thyroiditis, anxiety, depression, metabolic syndrome, and nutritional counseling. She also volunteered with numerous Naturopaths Without Borders trips to Rocky Point, Mexico and cared for patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and chronic pain.
MORE ABOUT ME:
From an early age, I felt connected to medicine and community. I was fortunate enough to be exposed to homeopathy and Ayurveda from my family during visits to India. While pursuing my undergraduate degree in psychology in a pre-medicine track, my interest piqued in community health, health policy, and nutrition. This yearning for knowledge while also seeking answers for my own health issues led me to naturopathic medicine, where I get to combine traditional practices and my love for naturopathy with evidence-based medicine through a holistic view.
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy traveling, cooking, dancing, painting, taking care of my plants, and spending time with my cat (Gobi). My own cultural experiences and experiences of being in the LGBTQ+ community continue to foster my curiosity in learning more about the history and practices of people all around the world.
